Altcoins refer to any cryptocurrency that is not Bitcoin. The term “altcoin” is short for “alternative coin.” Altcoins were created as an alternative to Bitcoin, with the aim of improving upon its limitations, such as scalability, transaction speed, and security.

There are now thousands of altcoins in existence, with varying features and use cases. Some of the most well-known altcoins include Ethereum, Ripple, Litecoin, Bitcoin Cash, and Cardano. Altcoins can be used for a range of purposes, including as a medium of exchange, as a store of value, or as a means of accessing specific blockchain applications and services.

Investing in altcoins can be risky due to their volatility and lack of regulation. It is important to research thoroughly before investing in any cryptocurrency and to understand the risks involved.
